It's crazy to think that four months has already flown by! Things are really beginning to change now. Here are some of the things that you do now, Zoe:
-Sit up with support
-Love to be supported while you stand
-Roll over ( not all the time, but you have several times on your own)
-Laugh/Coo
-Growl and Grunt- These have been the most hilarious to listen too!
-Grasp everything! You try to hold your bottle when i give you one
-Eat, Eat, Eat!
-Stretch and arch your back... sometimes almost falling out of our arms.
-You definitely hear our voices now, and follow us everywhere with your eyes
-You know us! You track us down when we walk away from you!
-You like your swing and play yard now... You don't like to be away from the action much though!
-You "sing along" during worship at church... you squeal and grunt to the music :)
-You are most likely going to be an independent child... You know what you want, when you want it... and you know EXACTLY what you don't want!
-When you toot or poop... you smile and giggle!
At your doctor's appointment yesterday, you received your Four month shots. You did well, but it was still sad for us to see you hurt! We gave you tylenol before and after to help out. You weighed 13 lbs and 15 ounces.... so you have grown a couple pounds since last time! You were 23.5 inches long! I think that you are still just average size, right at 50%! Which we think is perfect! I am still nursing you completely, and you take pumped bottles just fine. I might start letting you try some formula once a week or so just to see if it might fill your tummy more at night to let you sleep longer, although, this isn't really needed right now. You sleep from about 10pm-8am, waking once or twice to eat. You usually wake every night around 3 am. We thought you had reflux, but we think it's getting better now that we are trying to keep you calm right after feedings... you are SUCH a wiggle worm!
Obviously, it is 3 am when i am writing this, due to the fact that I just can't seem to find time during the day to do it! Things are busy and I just can't seem to get everything done... go figure! ;)
Zoe, we love you and you are SO much fun! Each month really is getting better! Here are some pictures of you this month!

Life with a three month old...
It's been crazy these past few weeks! We had Chris's brother and his family in visiting, which was wild and fun! The rest of his family came a couple of days, too.... so, we were all pretty tired after the fun ended. We took lots of pictures of Zoe for her baby and three month pics.... she's officially not a newborn ... :( So many things are beginning to happen this month! Here are a few of the highlights this month:
-Zoe rolled over from back to tummy several times, and even tummy to back once!
-She tries to hold everything! I even have pictures of her holding her bottle.. obviously it loses balance after a while, but still...
-She is teething! She slobbers and chews on everything!
-She still sneezes a ton, and her number is 6... she hasn't gone more than 6 in a row. :)
-She has found her voice! The other day she began to just babble on and on. We loved it!
- She is still in 0-3 month and 3 month clothing. But, I know she is growing like a weed!
-I weighed myself, and then weighed us together and it said that she weighs 12.5 pounds... we will see at the doctor soon.
-We met her in- home caretaker for the Fall! She will be staying with her Tuesday through Thursdays. Chris will take Mondays, and my mom will take Fridays! :)
-She giggles and smiles all the time! Its really been a fun month of discovering herself.
-Sleeping has gotten better, too. She almost consistently sleeps all night, waking once or twice to eat. But here lately it's just been a one time a night schedule! Although, naps are not her favorites.
- She will be staying on her first night away from mommy and daddy soon. :( We are going on a much needed one night out to the lake with some friends. I have pumped up enough to keep her belly full!
-You celebrated Father's Day with your daddy... you made him a picture frame and a cute card. :)
-You went swimming for the first time, you loved it!
-You took fourth of July pics with your buddy,Ellis. You both made us laugh!
I am still nursing, and that is going well, but I am afraid that she is just about to become interested in something more. She seems to really eyeball what we eat, and she could eat forever if I let her! She eats about 3.5 to 4 ounces at a time... of course I don't know exactly how much when i nurse her, but that is when i pump. She gets so full that she pulls away with a milk mustache, stretches, and smiles! Overall, this month has been wonderful! She is becoming this little character already! Her personality is really starting to show. She has had a pretty busy month so far. In a few weeks she will be 4 months! Oh dear! Oh yes.... I almost forgot... she fell out of her swing the other day! It was a Sunday morning and she was in her cradle swing... calm cradle swing. Well, she decided to wiggle her way to her feet, except that obviously doesn't work, so she toppled out of the swing and landed face down on the floor. I had ran back in from the kitchen and freaked out! We officially strap her in to all swings, seats, and play toys now! Little wiggle worm!
"Zoe,
You are a little bundle of joy.... seriously, we have so much fun loving on you! I don't want you to grow up, but in the same way it's so much fun watching and being a part of it! I love you little bug!

Two months old!
As of May 17th, Zoe was already two months old!!! It's crazy how the time has just flown by. This past month has been so busy that I really haven't had any time to blog much! I started back to work to finish off the school year with my first graders. They really enjoyed seeing me again, and seeing Zoe. ( I enjoyed being back too, although I missed my little girl!) Thankfully, Chris was able to take care of her the week and a half I was gone back to work, and now it's summer break! Here are some things that have happened this past month...
- Zoe sleeps from about 10pm to 7 am, waking up around 2am and 6am to eat.
-Zoe loves to eat her fist... in fact, she chokes on it all the time!
-Zoe loves bath time now. :) Mainly because she gets a lotion massage and gets warmed up with the blow dryer after her bath. She is sooooo spoiled!
- Zoe is a GREAT shopping buddy. She usually sleeps or just chews on her shirt or blanket while I buy groceries.
-Life without a bow in her hair doesn't exist. ;)
-Zoe likes it when we talk to her in funny voices... she coos and laughs at us!
-Cooing and laughing is a big thing right now, and we love this!
-Zoe is tolerating her swing much better now, less screaming!
-Zoe loves tummy time, and playing on her play mat... she just now started kicking and attempting to grab some of the little birds and toys.
-Zoe goes on lots of walks with me around the neighborhood..... she seems to like it better now, and doesn't mind the fresh air.
-Zoe still attempts to roll over, she has succeeded a few times.
-She is still swaddled in order to go to sleep, otherwise it's like a little ninja flopping around!
-She has got much better with eye contact and following faces and voices. She knows her mommy and daddy's voices for sure! ( And since my mom, Mims come a lot, she is knowing her voice more , too.)
-She loves to EAT! She has just started eating more at a time... probably a growth spurt.
- You are going through all your clothes! You are officially in 3 month clothes now... with some 0-3 still fitting.
-Oh yeah, you have the sad face down good... your little lip goes all the way down.
Finally, we went to the doctor today to get her two month shots and check up. She measured at 22.5 in long, and 11.67 pounds. She was exactly in the 50th percentile for her age group... the doctor said she was perfect, which we already knew! ;) We love this little girl so much. In fact, this morning on our walk I had to remember all that I am thankful for... she is my little gift. Although my pregnancy and labor weren't the best, she truly is! Life before being a mommy was great, but man, it's crazy how much better it is now. I can't wait to watch her grow more, and continue to meet all these fun milestones. It's already going too fast, though, so I am soaking up every second that I can with her.
Zoe,
You are such a sweet little cutie. Even when I am sleep deprived, you make me smile in the mornings when you laugh and coo. Your big blue eyes are sparkly and happy most always, which brightens my days! Me and your daddy sit and stare at you... in fact, he has to remind me to stop posting so many pictures on Facebook because I could post about 10 a day if it were up to me. :) I hope you know how happy we are to be your parents. We thank God daily that you are happy and healthy. We love you!

To Zoe... you are one month old!
This week, you have started to smile... on purpose! :)
So, because you are a month old, I thought I should hurry and get your picture quickly. I haven't been feeling that great, so it took every ounce of energy to get you to cooperate... which didn't exactly happen. You don't like to be laid down, you are a bit spoiled. In fact, every time we lay you down and it's not bed time, you throw a big ringer of a fit! These are the best one month pictures that I could get. I would lay you down and quickly rip the paci out and snap the picture! This took many tries, but here is what we got. I had to add a few of the screaming ones, just because they are too funny!
This one above is the best we got. I liked it, but your daddy made fun of the HUGE bow that is almost bigger than your head. I do agree, it's a bit big, but I was not about to change it and make you take another picture. :)
When you are calm, you are pretty dang cute! The one on the left is of you talking to me. You actually have already started to coo for us. In fact, Thursday night (April 19th) was your first official cooing. The picture on the right is of you sleeping. You like to do lots of hand and arm positions when you sleep. And below this is your daddy. We do all kinds of things to get you to calm down in the evenings. We think you have a touch of colic. SO, we have to get creative!
And finally, this past month has been a challenge for both of us! For me, I am trying to recover from labor, but having lots of bumps in the road. We will get there soon, I am sure! And for you, it's been a struggle to figure out night and day. You are also struggling with always being hungry, at least you think you are. You want to chew and eat on everything! And when we feed you, and have to break to burp, you scream and cry. :) But, you are super healthy and growing like a weed. I am betting you are at least 9 lbs by now, I'm sure of it! This picture is of both of us resting. You look pretty content here during your "milk coma". You are a sprawler, and take up as much space as possible. :) We love you, Zoe, and can't believe it's been over a month since you were born. We can't wait to watch you grow!
Love,
Mommy

Easter Sunday
This was our first outing to church, and our first outing with me driving! I haven't been able to drive the last few weeks since the surgery, so this was a bit scary. Let me just say, it is TOUGH getting yourself and baby dressed up for church... especially when it's your baby's first "appearance" to our church friends! So of course, I wanted her all dressed up and cute. :) It was nice to finally feel good enough to go somewhere, instead of being at home all day! Easter service was great, and she slept through it all so I was able to listen to the message. Thankful to Jesus for all he sacrificed for our complete and unworthy selves. This Sunday I was very blessed. :)

The last 20 days...
This post will be mostly pictures! In the previous post, it was all about the horrible situation that I can call "my birthing experience". But, as the days go by, it's getting better! My mom stayed the first full week, thank God! When she left, it was up to "us" to keep this baby alive and well! Such responsibility! haha! It's funny when you all of the sudden have to remember that it doesn't matter if you sleep, eat, or go to the bathroom... it's about that baby now! And, oh what learning experiences, and fun it is becoming! Of course the sleep issue is an adjustment, then there is the screaming uncontrollably without ceasing, and then the bathroom blow-outs! BUT, I must say.... it's been sweeter each day! Here are some pictures of the last 20 days of Zoe's life! I can't believe it's already been about 3 weeks!
This is Zoe in her Jeggings. :)
Here is her silly face that she makes after she eats! She is saying , "Thanks mom, that was yummy!"
Above is her snuggling with daddy. :) And below is when we found out that she will calm down after her bath if we turn on the blow dryer ( cool heat of course!). She loves it!
Above is her first visit to Target... I told her she will learn to love this store, as I do!
After our first outing we were exhausted, so we like to snuggle up on the couch!
Here is Zoe with her "Mims", my mom. Mims has been such a help with her! We love you Mims!
"Hiiiiiyyyyyaaaaaaa!" This was a crazy "karate dream" moment during her nap, and we just happen to catch it on our camera!
This was her "0" month picture that I took. She looks so peaceful! No one has to know that she screamed for about 15 minutes right before this, and then wore herself out!
And finally, here is our doctor. We love Dr. Collins, even if it's been a crazy ride! She did everything she could to help Miss Zoe get here safe and healthy. I believe that God just had a different plan for me during all of this, and I am daily thankful that even though it was tough... He got us through it and is still helping me recover each day. At her first 2 day check-up Zoe weighed 7 lbs 13 oz, 20.04 inches long, and 14.02 in. head circumference . Yesterday we went for her follow up to see if she was remaining healthy and thriving. Boy, is she! Yesterday, she weighed 8lbs 9.5 oz, 21.54 in long, and 14.57 head circumference. The doctor said her heart rate, weight, and other data looked perfect! Here are some other facts that have happened with Zoe:
-She found her thumb at week one! (We quickly distract her with a paci instead!)
-She rolls over to one side, then the other.... she is SO strong!
-Her eyes are starting to focus a little better. She definitely knows our voices now and will try and turn toward the voice.
- She grips her paci and tries to hold things by using her fists to clinch against her chest.
- She hiccups and sneezes all the time! The doctor said babies just do this. :)
- She got her fingernails clipped because she scratches her face... this is why she sometimes looks like a boxer with her mitts on.
- I've been only feeding her breast milk, and I also pump. She eats a lot, and acts like she is starving to death if you take her away for a second to burp her! She goes ballistic! She is eating about 3-4 ounces every feeding. About every 3 to 4 hours. At night, she is sleeping about 4-5 hours without waking to eat. Sometimes we have to wake her up if she goes too long.
- She smiles in her sleep a lot, and after she eats! :) She does this funny circle with her lips when she is hungry, and when finished. So cute!
- Bath time is a process, but she is getting better now that she gets to get in the water all the way. Her belly button scab fell off on 4-2-12. Yay!
That's about it! I get to drive soon... I will be driving us to church on Sunday for Easter Service! I am praying it all goes well! Chris goes early since he has to get ready for the worship, so we will be solo getting ready. I hope I'm not late! ;/ No one prepares you fully for anything, so I will try and remember that before I give advice to anyone else! However, I think that it's all purposeful "trial and error" time... it helps us grow as parents and together as a couple! We've already laughed many many times at how "dumb" we feel, or how funny things are. ( Even at 3 a.m.) I'm sure I will post more in the near future! But now, my husband just said that he would change her diaper if I would make him a sandwich! I'm jumping on this trade-off! :)

Reality.... week one
This post is going to be one of the most personal and detailed posts I have ever written. For one thing, it's been a life changing week. So, I want to make sure and post everything that has happened in order to remember it.
Where to start.... oh yes... on Friday, March 16th, we started the morning off by a big breakfast at Cracker Barrel at 6 am, then we went to the hospital to begin the induction of little Miss Zoe. They started me on the cervix softener and I took two doses of that before I really made great progress. Because of gestational diabetes, the doctor really wanted us to consider inducing on, or right before, her due date. She was a big little girl, and waiting past due dates could cause me more danger, and her. I was nervous about this, but knowing that she was full term and healthy gave me a peace about everything, plus the fact that I had been having pain and contractions already. :) So, Friday evening they began the induction drug to help me get more consistent contractions going. I was dilated to around 3-4 and my water naturally broke at 11:30 pm. Talk about the weirdest feeling ever! I was lying there and started yelling at Chris to wake up because I was leaking all over the place! ha, I didn't know what it was... we called the nurse in and she explained that it would and could happen for a while longer. I had no idea that there was that much fluid in there! Anyway, with this happening naturally, the contractions came pretty strong. I did my best to make it through several more hours of PAIN and contractions until about 3 or 4 am. At this point, I needed the epidural. I knew it would take the doctor a little bit to get the epidural to me,so I went ahead and called for it! After the epidural, things started to feel more manageable. I again, allowed for more contractions and was quickly dilated to 8 for a bit. After this, things started going pretty quickly... I know, quick really doesn't seem like the right word since this has been almost 24 hours of labor already! At the 24 hour mark, which was 7 am, we started pushing. And oh did we push! My mom had one leg, Chris had the other, and the doctor and nurse were doing all that they could, too. I was anxious because they kept telling me that they could see and touch her head full of hair. Why wasn't she coming out!!!??? Things got a little stressful as I looked at my doctor's face. I, at that very moment, knew something was wrong.
At this moment, after a couple hours of intense pushing and ripping/tugging, the doctor looked at me and said, "I'm so sorry Amber, she isn't going to be able to come out. Your pelvic bones aren't going to allow it and we need to prep you for an emergency c-section." Anything that I was feeling physically went away and I just began to cry. I don't really have the feelings of not getting to have her vaginally, but more of just being SO close to her, and then not happening. I had the immediate feelings of inadequacy, like, why can't my body do this? Being so close was also most of the disappointment. The struggle of 24 hours was about to become a lot longer, and I had NO idea what was to come. Plus, just the natural fear of surgery; for me and Zoe. Before this experience, I had never been in a hospital for me, or taken meds stronger than Tylenol, ib prof, and benadryl. lol. I think God made me have a sense of peace when he had the doctor tell me that this would have happened if I hadn't induced also. ( Because God knows I analyze and guilt myself about everything!) This was going to happen regardless, and the doctor actually said it was a good thing we didn't wait because it could have been worse had she been any bigger.
So, they tell my mom she has to leave, which made us both cry. Then, they tell Chris he can't go with me. They wheeled me down the hallway to the OR C-section room. Chris finally was able to come in beside me after I was prepped. As I lay there with a sheet on, I continued to cry. Mainly because I couldn't see my little girl being born. I didn't know if she was ok, I didn't know what the hell was going on... and I was scared! The absolute raw emotion was there... the most raw I have ever felt. I looked at Chris as I lay there and I could tell he was pretty freaked, too. After about 10 minutes, she was out. I heard her cry, and they let me see her up above my sheet.
Chris left me and went to be with her, weighed her, and all the things that I wanted to be doing as well. The nurses were so kind to let me see as much as I could. One lady stood right beside me holding my vomiting pan ( and yes, I was sick through it all!), and then another lady held the curtain up for me to see my girl. As I type this I am bawling like a baby because it was just the most "out of body" experience. Every ounce of me wanted to jump off the bed and join the "party". But, I couldn't, so I lay there and just tried to process what was happening. She was born at 10:13am on March 17, weighing in at 8 lbs 4.8 ounces, and 20.5 inches long. She had a pretty little head full of light brown hair. She.was.perfect. Our little "lucky charm"!
I was taken to a private recovery room for two hours. They let Chris bring our baby in to me, and I was able to feed her and hold her for the first time.... I was having high blood pressure (of course!), and I was still unable to keep any fluids down. So, they had me hooked up to a bunch of stuff, fluids included, as well as several meds I am sure. But, I didn't care as I held her... she was SO cute! And I know when I see ugly babies, and she was not and ugly baby. :) Chris and I both looked at each other and talked about how pretty she was. Ahhhh..... everything was ok.... at that moment.
Ok, where to go from here... I got to go back to my room. I was on so many things that I couldn't feel the pain, YET. Then, just realizing what all had happened completely overwhelmed me. Thank the Lord for my mom and Chris. Seriously. In fact, I have never been so thankful. To have to be completely taken care of, dressed, bathed, cleaned up after, etc..... humbling. So, this was the first day or two. Then, I think I started to feel like a person again. I was having the nurses bring me Zoe every two hours to feed. I was determined to do this, even if I felt horrible. I did it, and I had every lactation consultant feeling me up for the days I was there! haha! I didn't care, I was determined to figure out this breast feeding thing, and learn all I could before I left. Of course, some of these people were a little "coookooo", but, I took their advice and then did what worked for us. I got pretty comfortable with everyone seeing everything... guess it's true what other moms have told me. "Nothing is private anymore!"
We got to go home on Monday, getting home about 5pm. Then, we got home to have a wonderful clean house and roast cooked! yay mom! Thank you!
At this point, we were "officially" home and on our own as parents! EEEKKK! :)
I felt decent at this point, and Monday night we played the "shift taking" and took care of our little girl. On Tuesday, I was ok, but still feeling really sore in all areas. That night I started having pains, that the meds weren't helping. Some in my rib area, and in my shoulder. We went to the scheduled appointment Wednesday, and my blood pressure was up, but they didn't seem alarmed. I got my staples removed, which didn't hurt too bad. So, then we headed to Zoe's first pediatrician visit. She was checked and they said everything looked great. After this, we headed home.
Because that night was our 3 year anniversary, we fed Zoe, and then quickly ran to eat out by ourselves... although we talked about her the entire hour or so that we were gone. :) My mom kept her, and everything was fine. I was way too tired, and honestly overdid it this day. I began having a horrible headache, and thought I just needed to sleep. I pumped and was able to get her through the night for Chris and my mom to feed her, in order for me to try and get some sleep and recover... I thought!
Thursday morning I woke up, still having the worst migraine ever! I began to throw up, and couldn't keep anything down. I called the OB and she said to double my pain pill that they had me on, and to drink a lot of caffeine... and SLEEP. Of course, this knocked me out, and I was hopeful to wake up pain free. I woke up later in the day, stood up, and it all came back. Pain, throwing up, dizzy..... scared to death!
Chris rushed me to the ER Thursday night, which was also when we had friends coming over to bring us dinner.... Thanks Kristin and Matt for staying with my mom and Zoe! We got to the ER and they took my name and blood pressure, info, etc. The nurses bumped me up on the list, which alarmed me and Chris a little. They got me back in a room pretty quickly, even though we didn't see the doctor for over an hour. Things weren't looking so good, so they ran a few labs and tests. He came back in and informed up that he thinks there might be some spinal leakage from the trauma of labor and c-section.... somewhere between that epidural occurring. Anyway, he wasn't sure, but he wanted to try to do some natural things first. They kept me there until my blood pressure was stable, and then he gave me some tips and things to try. We tried to sleep through the night, but on Friday morning, we gave back in. My head was pounding, I couldn't hold my baby, and it was bad. We called the OB again, and she said to head to the hospital asap. When we got there, they admitted me and got me prepped for another procedure. It was to patch my spinal leaks, if there were some. They took me back and did the needle work... one funny thing that kept me focused as they were sticking needles in me was the fact that my boobs were leaking all over the place! I told the nurse, "You might want to let me keep my bra on, it's feeding time for my baby, and we are obviously ready!" She just laughed and said I was a great patient... :) So, the blood was taken and injected into my spine. I had to stay flat for a hour, and then I got to go back to see Chris in my room. Then, I came home Friday night, pumped, ate a little, and went to sleep. I immediately started feeling a little better, just some spinal pressure and pain. My head is currently better, and today ( Saturday) I am feeling more normal than I have been yet! I got up and fed my sweet little munchkin, and am enjoying a low key, restful day. Today is Zoe's one week birthday~ and oh, what a week it has been!
And here we are... in the OR. Our first family picture!
My first time to hold her!
